Specialist Technical Skills

The multidisciplinary specialist team have the skills to manage:

  • Complex posture/pressure care problems.
  • Complex spasticity/tone problems.
  • Specialist therapeutic interventions e.g. botulinum toxin, functional electrical stimulation.
  • Those with long-term tracheostomy care needs.
  • Those who also have Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis needs.
  • Equipment training for communication, mobility, personal care and environmental control.
  • Complex enteral feeding problems.
  • Assessment and rehabilitation of cognitive impairment.
  • Assessment and management of emotional difficulties and personality changes.
  • Management of behavioural problems.
  • Provision and arrangement of complex care packages.
  • Support for family reintegration and relationship adjustment.
  • ‘Real world context’ direct support to test care packages prior to discharge.
  • Home based rehabilitation and maintenance therapy programmes.
  • Community rehabilitation and outreach to provide direct support and facilitate transfer of skills required in therapy to the home/community environment.
  • Vocational and disability adjustment/return to work or education.
  • Return to leisure pursuits, hobbies and driving.
