Medical Team
Three Consultants work at the Colman Centre, all accredited specialists in rehabilitation medicine. Two specialize in the rehabilitation of people with neurological disorders and one in the rehabilitation of congenital and acquired limb loss. They are supported by three junior doctors in training. All are involved in the assessment of patients from a medical and rehabilitation perspective and help develop management plans tailored for individual patients in liaison with the patient, their family and the rest of the team. The doctors have particular expertise in:
- Understanding and experience of the nature, course and management of the major disabling disorders
- Understanding of the major disabling symptoms and their management e.g. incontinence, spasticity and immobility
- Understanding and experience of assistive technology and equipment needs of disabled people
- Leadership and communication skills needed to work in a multidisciplinary team
Regular out-patient clinics are held as well as special interest clinics for people with complex spasticity, neuro-muscular disorders and for school leavers making the transition in to adult services.
The medical team provides an in-reach service to the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust to patients for assessment for rehabilitation and to other settings as appropriate. Home visit services are also undertaken as required.
