FAQs
Q What are the visiting times at Caroline House (In-patients)?
A We do not have specific visiting times and there is no time when visitors are excluded from the unit. However we ask that family and friends liaise with the staff to establish an appropriate level of visiting. It is important not to over tire people who are recovering and not to disrupt therapy sessions.
Q What dining facilities are available?
A Caroline House has a small dedicated canteen where service users and staff meals are freshly prepared. Visitors are welcome to use this service. The ward housekeeper or the catering staff will be happy to help you with times and menu.
Q What clothing will I need to bring?
A We encourage all our in-patients to be up and dressed during the day so you will need appropriate day and night wear. Comfortable clothes without too many zips or buttons are useful for therapeutic activities.
Q How can I wash my clothes?
A We do have a washing machine and tumble dryer available for patient use or you may have family or friends who can take laundry home for you.
Q Can I get my hair cut?
A A hairdresser visits the site each Monday. Book an appointment via the ward housekeeper, nursing staff or reception.
Q How can I get to the Colman Hospital?
A The Colman Hospital is situated on a bus route approximately 1 mile from the centre of Norwich and 11/2 miles from the railway station. The number 25 bus passes by the hospital gates at approximately 10 minute intervals during weekdays. This bus links the railway station to the University via the city centre which makes the site easily accessible by public transport. There is limited parking available on site. It may be necessary to drop passengers off and seek off site parking.
Q Can people smoke on site?
A The Trust has a smoke free policy and smoking is not allowed in the buildings or grounds. We work as a team to help our patients move towards compliance with this policy and ask all visitors to respect the policy.
Q How will my care be co-ordinated, who can my family talk to about my care?
A All members of the team are happy to be approached and will do their best to answer your queries. There is a Modern Matron for the site and please feel free to address concerns about care management or site facilities to her – via reception. Each patient is allocated a named key worker and primary nurse and they will work closely with you and your family to discuss care management goals and progress. There will be progress review meetings arranged at regular intervals throughout your care.
Q Will I be able to get out into the fresh air?
A The Colman Hospital has extensive well-maintained grounds and a colourful enclosed courtyard. All our service users are welcome and encouraged to get outside and reconnect with the fresh air.
The Colman Hospital is situated in a thriving suburb of Norwich City. There are local shops including a bank and post office. There are many local cafes and public houses and a large garden centre within walking distance. The rehabilitation team will be able to discuss with you which places are suitable for you to access at the different stages of your programme and the receptionist or the ward housekeeper can give you directions.
Q I can't notice any difference, have I improved, I feel the same?
A Let us look at how you were and what you could do when you left the acute hospital. Rehabilitation takes time and you need to do your programmes in order to maintain the recovery you have achieved so far.
